SOCIETY REVIEWS YEAR With a credit balance of £22 19s 5d the North Taranaki Arts and Crafts Society reviewed another succsssful year at its annual meeting at New Plymouth on Tuesday evening. "In spite of the war, I believe it is a good thing to stick to our hobbies, where they do not interfere with war interests. as a refuge from thoughts of death and destruction and as a spiritual and mental rejuvenation," said the president, Mr. H. M. Bacon. He congratulated the society on achieving yet another successfui year financially. This, in view of the war demands and the difficult times, spoke well for the loy'alty of the members. During the year the sixth annual exhibition had proved quite successfui, some good work being shown, and the quantity of entrie? being satisfactoryr A picture of Mount Egmont by Bemard Aris had been purchased and presented to the Pierrots to be raffied for patriotic purposes. ) The society, at the request of the A'. and P. Society, had again t-aken charge of the art section at the Winter Show. members of the society securing a large share of the prize list. The centennial art exhibition just closed was of course the outstanding art event of the year and the thapks of the public and the society were due to the Government and those responsible for giving Taranaki the.opportunity of viewing this historic and interesting collection. Mr. Bacon expressed his thanks to the secretary, Mrs. Burgess. the committee and the honorary auditors, Messrs. Baily, Lovell and Thomson. . Offieers for the ensuing year were reelected with one exception. They are: Patrons, Messrs. W. C. Weston and E. R. C. Gilmour; president, Mr. H. M. Bacon: vice-presidents, Mr. Coleman, Mrs. R. C, Hughes and the Rev. J. D. McL. Wilson; honorary secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Burgess: committee, Misses Ritchie, Williamson, Mesdames Huggins, Whitaker, Dukes, .Burgess and Messrs. Thompson, Wood, Aris and L. J. Thompson. The dates for the seventh annual exhibition of the society were fixed for from October 14 to 26 and a hanging committee was appolnted. After the meeting members met Mrs. Murray Fuller, director of the centennial exhibition of art, and exchanged ideas and views with her.
