SHOW AT MANAIA

GRATIFYING SUCCESS Again in the evening session of the St. David's Fresbyterian spring flower show at Manaia on Tuesday there was a large attendance. In the latter part of the evening a concert programme was presented. Brisk business was done by the various Stall-holders. The show, despite the unusual difficulties created by the war, was an outstanding success, the best financially of recent years. Much credit was given to the joint secretaries, Misses M. Mitchell and O. Parry. The • concert programme was: Pianoforte duets, Misses N. Duff and J. Hooper; vocal solos, Mr. J. E. Crompton; elocution, Miss Joyce Psower; vocal solos, Miss Eileen Walker; violin solos, Mr. R. Duff; vocal solos, Miss Nancy Crompton; dance, Miss Greenhill; vocal solos, Master, John Burke; pianoforte duets. Misses N. Duff and J. Hooper; vocal solos, Mr. J. Crompton, Misses Eileen Walker and Nancy Crompton; violin solo, Mr. R. Duff; clocution, Miss Joyce Power, Accompaniments were played by Mrs. R. Miller, Misses N. Duff and P. Greenhill. The Rev. R. Miller thanked the artists for their assistance with the concert section, the attendance throughout the show and all exhibitors for their support. Although there was a decline in the number of exhibits, the standard of the blooms was high and a credit to the growers. Congratulations were extended to the championship winners, Mr. F. A. Quin, who was awarded the L. W. Meuli challenge bowl for the narcissi section, Mrs. C. H. Armitage, whose bloom was awarded the championship, and Mrs. Anderson, who secured the points prize for the cut flowers section. He thanked the judges— Mr. C. Goodson (Hawera), judge of the cut flowers and narcissi classes, and Mrs. W. A. Duckworth (Hawera), judge of the decorative class. It was encouraging to see so many local growers patronising the show, said Mr. Miller, who pointed out that with tha exception of two exhibitors all support came from Mgnaia growers.
