£25 FOR SPITFIRE FUND Another remarkable contribution has been made to the Taranaki Spitfire fund, this time by the children of the Oakura school who have raised £25. They arranged a school dance and several concerts and promoted competitions, gaining the generous support of the comparatively small district. The Eltham patriotic committee has approved of the suggestion of the Eltham Football Club to arrange football matches in aid of the Spitfire fund. Two teams from the Eltham school will play a curtain-raiser to a burlesque match the teams in which will comprise forfner players. A club match between married and single members will conclude the programme. Provided all other Automobile Associationfc in New Zealand joined in the scheme. the Automobile Association (Taranaki) agreed last night to the levy of ls a member to provide a fighter from motorists of the Dominion. The amount actually paid into Taranaki treasurers is now £1914 0s 6d, made up as follows: New Plymouth, £1337 6s; Hawera, £409 17s; Waitara, £132 15s; Eltham, 34 2s 6d. The Westland County Council decided at a meeting this week, as a mark of appreciation to New Zealand airmen in the defence of Britain, to contribute £250 to the New Zealand aeroplane fund for the use of a Dominion squadron on service, states a Press Association message from Hokitika. Further New Plymouth acknowledgments are:—
