Spitfire Card Party. In aid of the Ramanui Women's Institute Spitfire fund a card party was held on Tuesday evening at the residence of Mrs. H. H. Holloway. The hostess wore a frock of tobacco brown sheer, flowered in autumn tones, over brown taffetas. Bowls of bulbs made a cheerful setting. Prize-winners were Mrs. A. Findlay and Mrs. L. H. Oppenheim. Mrs. Holloway was assisted by Mesdames D. Ross and Martin Smith, and others present included Mesdames A. King, L. Holloway, Pennington, H. Rudge, L. Oppenheim, Cleaver, C. Brown, Reese. J. B. Sawers, I. Findlay. A. Murdoch, G. Martin, Kelsen, C. Pearce, Misses Pearce and L. Pearce. Mannequin Display. ' Patriotic funds will benefit considerably from a • well-attended mannequin parade of coming styles, presented in the Rewa lounge by courtesy of C. C. Ward Ltd. Comment on the styles presented was made by Mrs. Hodgkiss, New Plymouth, and the mannequins were Mrs. Hopkins, Misses E. Vincent, I. George. L. Wood and I. Horsup, all of New Plymouth. Every detail of coiffure, makeup, footwear and accessories was beautifully presented to offset the styles. A bridal group, the bride in all-over needlerun lace, with stiffened bustle bow of taffetas, her headdress in unique Cossack shape, and her attendants in white silver-sprinkled net, with dainty net mittens, and scarlet back-waist bows and posies made a most striking effect. Bouquets were made and presented by Mrs. Lovell, and incidental music was played by Miss C. Barrow. Club's Annual Meeting. Mrs. M. M. Thomson, acting-president, welcomed a fair attendance of members to the ninth annual meeting of the Hawera Women's Glub. Mrs. Thomson referred to the loss to the club in the death of Mrs. W. McL'Dowie, former president and vice-president, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. Officers elected for the forthcoming year were: President, Mrs. M. M. Thomson; vice-presidents, Mrs. P. 0. 'Veale, Miss E. Caplen and Miss M. Burgess; secretary, Mrs. A. Evans; committee members, Mesdames W. W. Thomas, W. W. Davy, A. K. Fyson, E. M. Hamilton, W. T. Adams, N. Lewes and Misses Buchanan and E. Caplen. Reports were read of the work of various circles. The war relief circle was doing good work, it was stated. Among those present were Mesdames E. M. Hamilton, W. W. Thomas, A. Evans, A. Thomson, W. W. Davy, A. E. Stevens, W. T. Adams, H. E. Webster, E. Evans, P. 0. Veale, A. K. Fyson, T. R. Surrey, Misses Buchanan, H. Burgess, E. Caplen, B.. Ryan and C. Tonks.
