REGENT THEATRE.
CHARLIE CHAN AND "OWD BOB." Commencing to-night at 7.45 at the Regent Theatre, New Plymouth, "Charlie Ohan at Monte Carlo" will feature Warner Oland. At the gaming tables of the world's gayest playground death deals a hand and Chan is called in to solve a murder that involves a large sum of money. To tell any more of the story would spoil for lovers of mystery pictures the finding of the clues leading to the murderer. This is one of Chan's best pictures, in which he is ably supported by his number one son, Keye Luke. The second feature, "Owd Bob," stars that lovable old character, Will Fyffe. His "Owd Bob" is a picture study of the Scottish tenant-farmer— the drunkard, the man of straw, the man with the iron will, the man who quarrcls incessantly with his neighbours, even with his charming daughter, the man who is so cunning, yet simple enough to have that beautiful understanding with his famous dog, Black Wull— is one of the most masterly and p-mfectly satisfying things yet seen in celluloid. Margaret Lockwood plays an, exceptional part as the daughter. John Loder is the farmer who loves her and is the owner of Black Wull's rival, "Owd Bob."
