CORONACH ARRIVES

ENGLISH DERBY WINNER NEW HOME AT WANGANUI

The English thoroughbred stallions Coronach and Golden Eagle have reached their new homes at Wanganui. Coronach goes to "Cranleigh" stud, Maxwell, under the joint ownership of Mr. J. Donald. and Mr. J. G. Alexander. Golden Eagle is for the stud of Mr. M.' Grogan, Westmere. Both have arrived in splendid order after their long trip. The arival of these two sires will considerably strengthen the bloodstock industry of the Dominion, as they both belong to the highest plane of presentd^y English stallions. First Derby Winner in Dominion. Coronach is the English Derby winner of 1927 and he is a son of the unbeaten Hurry On. He is the first Derby winner to come out to New Zealand. Etominion breeders are to have the benefit of his services mainly as a result of the war, his owner, Mrs. Macdonald Buchahan, having made a gift of him to Mr. Donald, under a long standing arrangement with the late Captain Crawford that Coronach should be sent out to New Zealand if his services were not able to be fully utilised in England. . ; - ' Coronach has sired winners of more than £1£00,000, including Corida, the second highest stake-winning mare in the world. Coronach himself won stakes amounting to £42,224. Coronach is to have a limited number of mares this season and bookings are full. Golden Eagle, foaled in 1935, is by Fairway from Golden Silence, by Swynford from Molly Desmond, by Desmond from the famous Pretty Polly, who was beaten only twice in her 24 starts. He raced only as a two-year-old and was second in three events— to Rhan Bahadur in the Prince of Wales Plate, five furlongs at York, to Glen Loan in the Imperial Produce Stakes, four furlongs, at Kempton Park, and to Radiant in the Criterion Stakes, six furlongs, at Newmarket.
