NEW PLYMOUTH

Mrs. W. J. Reid returned to New Plymouth yesterday from a holiday at Dunedin. Miss Gabrielle McAllum, of the nursing staff of the Wellington Hospital, is spending a holiday at her home at New Plymouth. Mrs. A. R. Standish is spending a holiday at North Egmont. Miss Jean Patrick has returned to New Plymouth from a short visit to Auckland. Miss O'ive Mawson, Waiongona, is spending a holiday at Rotorua as the guest of Mrs. H. R. Florey. Mrs. Gordon Duff has returned to Auckland after a holiday at New Plymouth. Miss Nora Smith has returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mrs. Rogers, who was the guest of Miss Vera Curtis, has returned to Lower Hutt. Miss Alison Watts is visiUng^ her mother, Mrs. G. S. Watts, Hawera. League President Entertains. The Victoria League rooms were decorated with spring bulbs, stock, apple blossom and Iceland poppies yesterday when the president, Miss J. L. McNeill, entertained members of the League council and artists and speakers who had contributed items at league gatherifigs during the year. Miss McNeill wore a black ensemble relieved with a white fur collar, a black hat and a shoulder spray of orchids. There were about 70 guests and a musical programme and competitions were enjoyed. Those who contributed to the programme were Miss C. Leatham (pianoforte solos), Miss V. Ross (violm solos), Mrs. Therkleson (songs), Mrs. R. Black (songs), and Mrs. M. Blackley (recitations) . Accompaniments were played by Miss Leatham. Two musical competitions were won by Mrs. R. L. Dukes and Mrs. A. Wilson and by Mrs. A W. Scott. The Rev. J. D. McL. Wilson thanked Miss McNeill for her expression of thanks to the council and the performers. It was a considerable task, said Mr. Wilson, to look after an institution such as the Victoria League, and one that Mis,? McNeill had performed with energy and efficiency. Mr. Wilsor suggested that the greetings and gooc wishes of the gathering be sent to Archdeacon F. G. Evans, who was in hospital.
