MARKETING OF EGGS

new plymouth position Pointing out that it was necessary first to organise the four main centres, the Intemal Marketing Department suggested to the North Taranaki Council of Primary Production last night that as this might take some time there was no reason why smaller quantities of eggs coming on the New Plymouth market should not be sold in the town and any surplus forwarded to Wellington for export in their original crates. The letter stated that from evidence supplied by two New Plymouth firms there was probably a fair case for gazetting New Plymouth as an egg marketing area. Writing on behalf of members of the Women's Division at Tongaporutu interested in the appeal for more egg production, Mrs. D. Henderson wrote asking for information dealing with the organisation of the poultry and egg industry in North Taranaki. In reply, Mr, D. Le C. Morgan, secretary to the council, said that to date nothing had been finalised in the matter of establishing a clearing depot for eggs at New Plymouth. In the near future, however, he hoped to be able to report about the arrangements made for receiving eggs for export. There were many difficulties, he stated. that had to be ocercome before a depot could be properly established but he believed they would be overcome before long.
