TIMELY ACTION FILM.
"THUNDER AFLOAT" AT PLAZA. The stirring action film "Thunder Afloat," which reveals the hazards and thrills endured by U-boat chasers, will be shown finally at the Plaza Theatre, Stratford, to-day at 1.30 and 8 p.m. Deviating from the customary doctor-nurse picture, RKO-Radio's "Vigil in the Night," which opens at the Plaza Theatre to-morrow night, accurately pre-presents the inside story of a nurse's duties as well as a drama of romantic ordeals. Starring Carole Lombard, Brian Aherne and Anne Shirley, the story is told from a nurse's standpoint. with two hospitals in England supplying the backgrounds. With A. J. Cronin, a noted doctor-author writing the original story, the authenticity of the dramatic situation is unquestionable. A. J. Cronin is one of the better known of the medical men who have turned to literature, his "The Citadel" having achieved wide popularity as a novel as well as a screen offering. A distinguished Scots physician j who had a big London practice before j he became a writer, Cronin draws on | his wide experience for his stories and : atmosphere, and in "Vigil in the Night" he has achieved an unusual degree of realism.
