GUMBOOTS STOLEN
jail for ship greaser
Theft of gumboots valued at 16s 6d resulted in Eric James Thompson, a ship's greaser, being sentenced to seven days' imprisonment when he pleaded guilty in the New Plymouth Police Court yesterday. The offence was committed on Saturday. The police said nothing was known against Thompson at New Plymouth. He was a married man with five children and belonged to London. He was ordered to be placed on board his ship if she sails before 1 is term of imprisonment expires. An order was made for the return of the boots to the owner. Motorists' Offences. Horace C. L. McCabq, who pleaded guilty, was eonvicted and ordered to pay 12s costs for driving a motor-car on June 30 without having a driver's license. On a similar charge H". C. Paul also pleaded guilty, was eonvicted and ordered to pay 12s costs. Exceeding the speed limit when driving a motor-car in Devon Street cost W. E. Morris £1 and costs 10s. He pleaded guilty by lelter and the borough inspector, Mr. R. Day, said his speed was 40 miles an hour.
