This position was made clear to the North Taranaki Council of Primary Production in a letter from the UnderSecretary of Lands replying to a previous inquiry made by the council. The department stated that it coitfd not agree to detaching and rolling up the wire on such properties, but suggested that in any particular case, anyone interested in "he acquisition of the wire should apply to the Commissioner of Crown Lands and offer a price for it as it stood on the property.
