SATURDAY'S GALLOPS

The No. 2 grssa track was in good jrder at Ellerslie on Saturday morning when many of the horses racing at Avondale during the coming week-end were galloped, states the Auckland Star. The best effort over three furlongs was that of Acre's Beauty (Vaughan) and Flying Jay (Thomson), who ran the distance in 37 4-5s. There was not much between them and both hit out very freely. Rara Avis (Vaughan) ran the fastest half-mile, registering 49 4-5s. The two-year-old Bournemouth (Tremain) showed specd in running 51 l-5s, beating Transmitter (Gilchrist) and Declaim (Messervey). Over five furlongs Phaleron (Markwick) impressed more than Biddy Girl (Messervy), their time being lm. 5s. The last half-mile took 51 2-5s, and they beat Brazilian (McGill), who went with them, by a couple of lengths. Happicoat (Gilchrist) just shaded Royal Message (Vaughan) at the conclusion of six furlongs in lm. 19 l-5s, the last halfmile being traversed in 51 l-5s. Happicoat did her work well, but Royal Message worked rather lazily. The best effort over a round was credited to Kelly (Gilchrist), who traversed the distance in lm 48s. He ran j the last seven furlongs in lm 34 3-5s, and / the final six in lm 21. He finished on very solidly. Gallops in Brief. Five furlongs: — Marchby (Thomson) beat Flying March and Natal lm. 7 l-5s; Beeswing (Kerr) lm. 8 l-5s, the last four in 53s; Llandaff (Messervy) lm 6 l-5s, the last fcrur in 52 l-5s, doing it well; Gold Race (Vaughan) beat Clinch (Cameron) lm. 7s, the . last three in 40s; Desert Fire (Poad) beat Money Spinner (Vaughan) lm. 6s, the first two in 24 4-5s. Six furlongs:— Calula Boy (Gilchrist) beat Tybalt (Speck) lm. 22 2-5s, the first three in 40s; Miss Valerie (Poad) shaded Bronze Emerald (Messervy) and Hinehau (Tremain) lm. 23. the last four in 52 4-5s; Rival (Coon) beat Elise (Vaughan) lm. 20 2-5s, the first three in 40 2-5s; Veyana (Cammick) lm. 21 2-5s. the last four in 54 4-5s; Hot Shot (Messervy) lm. 25 4-5s easily, the last three in 41s; Odtaa (Gilchrist) beat Vaalso (Hearn) lm. 21 3-5s, the first three in 41 2-5s. Round:— Aero King (Vaughan) lm. 52 l-5s, the last seven furlongs in lm. 39 l-5s; The Trimmer (Williams) led Sir Cameron (Green) and Rex Maitland (McGill) lm. 53s, the last half-mile in 55s, The Trimmer having a big break until the last furlong; Bronze Fire (Messervy) lm. 58 2-5s, the last half-mile in 55 l-5s; Valspear (Messervy) lm. 54 4-5s, the last six furlongs in lm. 24s, and final half-mile 54 4-5s; Royal Appellant (Buchanan) and Kena (Poad) lm. 51s, the last seven furlongs lm. 36 4-5s, six in lm. 23s, and final half-mile 55s, both working well; Silver Glow (Thomson) lm. 52 l-5s, Rajanya (Gilchrist) assisting him over last six furlongs in lm. 20 3-5s. The Jumpers. Poland (Williams) was sent over a couple of pony hurdlOs but was inclined to jump high. He afterwards went over four big ones, jumping the first three safely, but coming to grief at the last. Williams received abrasions to his face and had to be sent home. Boy Lu (Turner) and Flamberge (Ritchie) gave a satisfactory exhibition over four hurdles. Ringshot (Baker) and Knight of Australia (Ritchie). were companions over six furlongs, the former giving the better display. At Takanini, The middle grass, on which the poles were 10ft. out, provided good going at Takanini and a good deal of interesting work was accomplished by candidates for the Avondale meeting, including Surella, Glen Connell, Maxam, Miss Jose, Kraal, Airport and Queen City. The best effort of the morning was recorded by Surella (Beguely), who decisively defeated Gaymiss (Parsons) over five furlongs in lm. 5s. Gaymiss was very disappointing. Queen City (Coker) was also responsible for a good effort over this distance, completing the task in lm. 5 l-5s. Orelio (Smith) was going easily alongside Arvakur (Curwen) at the end of five furlongs in lm. 6s, while Glen Connell (Burgess) worked with dash while traversing the same round in similar time. Grandora (Beguely) broke away just past the sixfurlong post, running the last five furlongs in lm 5 3-5s, working attractively. Miss Jose (Hatwell) and Kraal (Spinley) pleased while running half a mile in 52s, this gallop taking place between the seven-furlong post and the three. Others to please over the distance were Lady Pay (Parsons), who recorded 53 3-5s, Airport (Spinley), who appeared to be going a shade better than Lovaals, in 54s. Floodtide (Coleman), after running his first half-mile in 51 3-5s, ran six furlongs in lm. 20s— an impressive effort. Maxam (Hatwell) and Estro (Spinley) completed a similar task in lm. 22s, both working extremely well. Full Hand (Curwen) and Cornish (Smith) both sprinled three furlongs nicely in 39 l-5s, Gayjax (Beguely) and Grand Vaals (Parsons) taking 39 3-5s, and High Sea (Jackson) and Sealaw (McMinn) occupying 39 3-5s. Other gallops were: — Mile:— Lapidarian (Cleaver) last mile of a mile and a half in lm. 50s, working well; Gamos (Parsons), assisted by Heroic Star (Coker) over the last halfi mile in lm. 50s, the last half in 55s; Valamito, witH the assistance of Mazir (Parsons) over the last six furlongs, lm. 49s, the last six furlongs lm. 23 3-5s. Three furlongs: — Route March (Smith) and Verus (McMinn), 40 3-5s; Nettarion (Jackson) and Cambria (McMinn). 40s: Thc Dozcr (Gray), 41s. Four furlongs: — Valimeen (Quedlcy), 54s; Foxola (Parsons) and King Louis (Beguely). 55s. Five furlongs:— Palustre (Walters), lm. 1 10 2-5s, easily; Classic (Smith) and i Venture (Curwen), lm. 6 3-5s; Mysito | (Jackson) and Sunola (McMinn), lm. 6 4-5s; Inver (Coleman). lm. 8 3-5s; Hunting Bee (Mclnally). lm. 7 3-5s; Cillas (Gray) and Dinky Di (Cleaver), lm. 11 3-5s; Namara (Gray) and Silver Quex (Cleaver), lm. 8 l-5s.
