FUGITIVE TURNS AT BAY
ESCAPE OF ASSAILANT
Waihi, Last Night. A stab in the right' cheek with a sharp instrument was suffered by Constable William Harper, Waihi, when he gave chase to a man seen leaving in suspicious circumstances the borough council yards. The man turned suddenly on the constable and inflicted the wound. So far no arrest has been made. Benzine has been stolen recently from the yards. Several stitches had to • he put in. the wound in the constable's cheek. Some of his clothing was tom.
