FAREWELL TO MR. GOSNELL. (From Our Own Correspondent). At the Waitara Methodist Church on Sunday the Rev. R. B. Gosnell conducted farewell services, he having received a call to Fitzroy Church, New Plymouth. The services were well attended, despite the absence of many members of the congregation on Easter holidays. Prior to the evening service, the Rev. Gosnell took the opportunity of thanking the members of the church and residents of Waitara for their many acts of kindness. At the close of the service > Mr. Gosnell and his wife were called upon to receive a handsome silver tea service. Mr. 0. Franks, making the presentation on behalf of the congregation. said how sorry they were to lose Mr. and Mrs. Gosnell, but as they were not going far it was hoped that he | would visit them occasionally. The Rev. Gosnell was taken by surprise. He thanked the congregation for their gift and expressed appreciation that the work of Mrs. Gosnell in the. church had been recognised. Farewell gatherings and presentations have also been held in other parts of the district, which shows the esteem in | which Mr. and Mrs. Gosnell are held.
Easter Monday, as is usual with Wai- I tara, was quiet, the attractions at Hawera, Kawaroa and Urenui taking many out of the town. " The tennis club, owing to rain in the morning, had their day spoilt, but the bowlers had an enjoyable day with a pairs tournament, which was won by 11. Calder (skip) and C. Kettle (lead). Two rinks of Waitara bowlers journeyed to Wanganui and competed in the Easier tournament and did not disgrace themselves. Puller’s rink had 7 wins and 2 losses, getting into the semi-fin-als, and Fox’s rink had a wins and ,4 losses. PERSONAL.
