MOTOR SERVICES TAKEN OVER ACQUISITION IN CANTERBURY. TRYING OUT THE POSSIBILITIES. By Telegraph,—Tress Assoc Istien. Christchurch, Last Night. The Railway Department has taken over the motor bus services running between Christchurch and Kowai Bush, Springfield and Coalgate. These are not suburban services the distances ranging from 48 to 38 miles. All the services were operating in opposition to the railways and carrying many passengers. The department intends to operate the services and is retaining in its employ the drivers who have 'been on the buses under private ownership. A departmental statement issued today says that this does not foreshadow a general policy of Government acquisition of road services, but is to try out the possibilities in Canterbury.
