WORK. AT CLEARING OFFICE. London, Jan. 10. The work of the Clearing Office respecting ex-enemy debts and claims is gradually drawing to a close. The seventh annual report, now issued, states that in all 424,757 claims (Britis'li and ex-enemy) for £244,669,539 had 'been notified to the. Department. The total number of British claims against German nationals or the German Government was 101,554, amounting to £76,208,927, and of these 100,486 claims to the value of £74.551,412 had at Ist October last been finally settled either by admission, rejection, or withdrawal. The German claims notified to the Clearing Office in respect of pre-war debts numbered 265,947 and • amounted to £62,912,816. Of these 887 claims to the amount of £227,062 were disposed of by consent awards, having been settled amicably by negotiation through the Clearing Offices without the necessity of consideration by the Mixed Arbitral Tribunal. At Ist October last there were outstanding 1865 claims for £3,223,892, and of these 176 for £1,239,975 have been referred to the Mixed Arbitral Tribunal.
