NEW PLYMOUTH MARKETS. PRICES FOR DAIRY FARM PRODUCE. Market prices in New Plymouth this week were as follow (spot cash)
COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY. A. and N.Z. Sydney, April 11. The directors of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company propose an amendment to the deed of settlement to prevent the transfer of shares, to a trustee company unless a beneficiary or representative’ thereof is associated with sue!) company's officer?. Thus the owners of shares are assured voting rights on the total issued shares, 292,500. The directors regard the position as dangerous, as many shareholders have no real interest in the company. A statement of the other side of the question is to be circulated by various trustee companies, WAIKATO STOCK MARKET. The Farmers' Co-op Auctioneering Co, Ltd., report:— Beef.—The market is very firm, with every prospect of a further rise, best prime ox making equal to 35s per 1001 b and prime cow and heifer up to 30s per 1001 b. Fat Sheep.—Prices are firm with strong competition for both wether and ewe mutton, and although not plentiful, sufficient is offering to meet the local demands. Stores. —There is still a strong demand for all classes with prices improving, breeding ewes,, wethers and •lambs being keenly sought after. Store Cattle.—Good yardings have been coming forward and meeting with keen competition; grown and young steers, good empty’ cows, and yearling heifers are in strong demand. Dairy Cattle.—Although early' tn the season, there has been a good inquiry for Jersey and Jersey-cross in-calf heifers, and several sales at high prices have taken place. Pigs.—There has been a sharp rise with all the markets very firm for baeoners and -porkers, prime quality making from G’/td to 7d; good stores are in demand, but weaners are still very eheap, due no doubt to the shortage o f feed. Estimated stocks all butters, public stores at April 2, 11,100 tons, compared with 10,500 tons last year. Estimated stocks cheese in public stores, April 2, at London, Liverpool, Bristol:—New Zealand and Australian, 101,800 crates (last year, 144,250 crates) ; Canadian, 17,900 'boxes (last year, 36,800 boxes). The 'board has also received the following market report from its agents in Canada:—Butter: New York 45J cents (Is lOJd); Montreal, 394 cents (Is 7Jd); San Francisco, 40 cents (Is 8d).
The board states that owing to an error in transmission of the cable message, last week’s report gave the butter in store as 660 tons. This should have read “6660 tons.” . LIVE STOCK SALES. A DDIXGTOX. Christchurch, April 11. Due to the holiday and the break in the weather, there was a reduced entry in the main sections of stock at the Addington market to-day. The sale showed little change on last week’s values. Store Sheep.—About 'half last week’s entry, lambs showing a marked reduction. Ewes for the most part were from the North Island and Nelson and Marlborough. Store lambs held their values, good ewes improved slightly, and wethers sold exceptionally keenly. Threequarteibred ewe lambs made 22s Id to 21m Id; rape lambs, to 245; medium
lambs, 19s 9d to 22s 3d; inferior lambs, 16s to 17s 6d; best two-toothed threequarterbred ewes, 36s 6d to 40s; good two-toothed three-quarterbred ewes, 31s 9d to 34s 3d; ordinary ditto, 28s lOd to 30s lOd; four, six and eight-toothed crossbred, 26s 9d to 28s 6d; fair six and eight-toothed crossbred, 18s 6d to 23s 6d; failing-mouthed, 15s to 19s; medium two-toothed halfbred ewes, 28s 9d to 31s; good four, six and eighttootlied, 31s to 35s 6d; inferior four, six and eight-toothed half'bred ewes, 21s to 245; failing-mouthed halfbred ewes, 16s to 19s 6d; two-toothed halfbred ewes, 27s to 29s 7d; ordinary four, six and eight-toothed crossbred ewes, 27s 9d to 295; medium ditto, 23s to 275; fail-ing-mouthed crossbred ewes, 16s 9d to 19s 9d; best halfbred wethers, 26s 6d to 29s 4d; ordinary ditto, 24s to 265; best crossbred wethers, 27s to 30s 6d; ordinary, 23s to 255. Fat Lambs. —Two thousand nine hundred and fifty penned, and a slightly better sale than last week resulted, schedule rates being fully maintained. Extra prime made to 35s 4d; prime, 30s to 335; medium, 27s to 29s 6d; light, 24s to 26s 6d. Fat Sheep. —An average entry, with little notable in the way of quality. Prime sheep sold well, but medium wethers no more than maintained values. A few good lines of ewes made -big prices. Extra prime wethers made to 39s Id; prime wethers, 32s to 37 s 6d; medium wethers, 28s 6d to 31s; light wethers, 25s 6d to 28s; extra prime ewes, to 36s 4d; prime ewes, 24s to 28s 6d; medium ewes, -20 s to 20s 6d; light ewes, 17 s to IDs Gd; aged ewes, 14s to 16s 6d.
BURNSIDE. Dunedin, April 11. Lambs alone maintained late values at the Burnside stock sale today. Fat sheep ajid fat cattle were easier. - Store cattle showed a slight decrease, and pigs were dull. Fat Cattle.—The yarding numbered 226 head of mixed quality stuff, including some good consignments of medium weight bullocks and heifers. Prime heavy stuff was in short supply. ’ The opening demand was dull and continued so. Prices decreased by from 10s to 15s per head. Good quality mediumweight and light prime bullocks made from £l2 to £l7 15s; heifers, £6 to £lO ss; and cows, tip to £9 and £lO. Light prime and medium beef wa s worth up to 37s per 1001 b; heifers, 32s 6d;cows and light heifers, 22s 6d to 255. IFat Sheep.—Moderate quality was shown in the yarding. The proportion of medium and heavy ewes was large, while there were some few pennings of fair wethers and young ewes. There was a good sale for heavy wethers at values ruling a fortnight ago. No improvement in the demand for ewes -was shown. In the early stages of the sale the market generally improved for the best wethers from Is fid to 2s. Towards the close of the sale extra lieai’y wethers made up to 425; prime, 25s to 38s; medium, 28s to 335; light, 21s to 245; extra heavy ewes, 31s to 34s 3d; prime 25s to 275; light, 14s to 16s Gd; fat wethers, prime, 6d per lb; heavy sorts, s|d; prime ewes, 4Jd; light and aged. 3ld to 4d. Fat Lambs.—The quality wa 3 an improvement on recent yardings, some prime heavy sorts being included. There was a goud demand for all finished lambs at values on a par with those of last week. Prime heavy lambs made from 32s to 34s 3d; prime, 29s to 31s; medium, 25s to 27s 6d; unfinished, 21s to 23s fid; price, lOd per lb.
Store Cattle. —There was a fair yarding of store cattle, comprised of the usual cows and yearlings and some fair to good three-year-old and four-year-old bullocks. The demand for the best bullocks was very fair, while the best plain sorts were somewhat dull. Best three-year-old and four-year-old bullocks made from £9 5s to £9 17s Gd; medium, £8 to £9; 'backward steers, 7s Gd per head cheaper than last week. Cows were also back. Pigs.—One hundred and forty-nine fats and 41 stores. Prices for stores were improved, while fats remained about the same as last week. Porkers, 7d per lb; baeoners, spl. DAIRY PRODUCE MARKET. The Farmers’ Co-op. has received the following cabled advice from its London representative —The butter market is demoralised, with buyers holding off, anxious sellers causing weakness. New Zealand. 166 s to 1703 per cwt; Australian, 160 s to 162 s per cwt; Argentine, l*sSs to 162 s per cwt. Cheese is rather easier. Messrs J. and J. Lonsdale and Co., Ltd.’s report, dated London, April 10, reads:—Market quietly steady. Butter IGSs: cheese, 975.
