DEATH OR LEAP IN DARKNESS
FLOATS 2000 FT IN PARACHUTE. By Telegraph—Press Assn —Copyright. Received April 9, 9 p.m. United Service. London, April 8. Sergeant-Pilot Trout wag forced to choose between death oj a leap in tlie darkness when the engine of his Siskin fighter failed at Brentwood on Saturday night. “I seemed enveloped in a black pall over a bottomless pit,” he said. “I turned on the lights so that people seeing the machine falling could get out of the way. I harnessed a parachute on myself and jumped. The machine went hurtling downwards and crashed to the earth below me. I floated down 2000 feet and landed in a field where a signalman found me rather dazed. He slopped a train and sent me on it to Brentwood.” The aeroplane was a total wreck.
