UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT

BOXING, CRICKET AND TENNIS. Wellington, April 8. The annual tournament of the four university colleges of New Zealand commenced here to-day. The boxing finals resulted:—Bantamweight, V. C. Rickard (Auckland) beat McAlevey (Otago); feather-we'ght, Ferguson (Otago) beat Dick (Canterbury); light-weight, Mayhill (Auckland) beat Chester (Canterbury); welter-weight, Richardson (Victoria) beat Jenkin (Auckland); middle-weight, Allan (Otago) beat Moorhouse (Auckland); Leckie (Otago) beat Frear (Auckland). Otago wen the boxing shield. In the inter-varsity rowing event the Victoria College crew beat the Auckland University crew by two lengths. The lawn tennis results are:— Men’s Singles.—First round: F. R. Chisholm (Otago) beat G. N. T. Goldie (Victoria), 9—7, 6—2; A. C. Stedman (Auckland) beat H. W. Smithson (Canterbury), 6—4, 6—l; ,K. H. North (Auckland) beat W. R.
