Most of Wellington’s leading amateur golfers and alec many player# from elube further afield assembled on the links at Heretaunga on Saturday to contest the 3€>-hole stroke qualifying test for the provincial amateur championship matches. Steady rain commenced to fall in the morning soon after the last pair had left the first tee, and with the exception of a break of two hours in the afternoon fell almost incessantly throughout the day. The qualifying list was headed by H. A. Black, of the Miramar Club, who returned an aggregate score of 153 —73 —80 for the 36 holes, the reigning holder of the provincial title, A. D. 8. Duncan, of the Wellington Club, being the second to qualify with 155—82—73.
