ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
TWO FRIENDLY’ MATCHES PLAYED. ALBION’S AND CALEDONIANS WIN. There was a fair attendance at Western Park, New Plymouth, on Saturday afternoon during two friendly association football games. Albions defeated Moturoa by three points to nil and Caledonians defeated Rangers by four points to one. McKenzie and Crowe (2) scored for Albions in a game that was very even. Albions combined better, however, probably owing to the practice they had had during the match with the Westmoreland team on the previous Saturday. A penalty kick awarded Moturoa was neatly saved by Neighbour, in goal. Mr. G. H. Gorringe was the referee. Caledonians in their match with Rangers were fortunate in fielding practically the same team that played so successfully last year. The Rangers’ team, on the other hand, was a new formation, including three boys who last year played in school football. Nevertheless they showed great promise and when the stiffening afforded by one or two good individual players has been spread through the team by experience during a few Saturdays Rangers should be a combination that will be a proposition for the other local sides. It was a very good game for the first of the season. Tries were scored for Caledonians by Ray, Gardner (2) and Hill (1), and for Rangers by Allsop. Mr. J. Swainson was the referee.
