LOYAL SAMOAN’S FAREWELL BOATS ESCORT HIM TO STEAMER. THE ILLEGAL MAU STILL ACTIVE. (Special to Press Assn.—By Radio.) Received April 8, 11 p.m. A. and N.Z. Apia, April 7. Over 2000 Samoans gathered at Mulinuu to-day to give an enthusiastic farewell to General Richardson. The ceremonies consisted of dancing, singing and speech-making. Several gaily-deeorated fautasi, each manned by 40 rowers, escorted the departing Administrator to the steamer. In the town of Apia 2000 illegal Mau police in uniforms of purple, many carrying big sticks, have been demonstrating in an uncompromising manner since Thursday. To-day unsympathetic Samoans forcibly removed at least two young men from the procession of loyal native# en route to the send-off to the Administrator. Yesterday a meeting of Mau police at Apia was illegally addressed by Faumnuina, a chief recently removed from the native village by order of the Administrator. Because of his activity in Mau matters undoubtedly the policy of breaking ordinances but no bone# ia still being pursued by the Mau.
