SHOOTING AT REWA REWA

TARANAKI ANNUAL MEETING PRWS. A. GOVKNMKX WINS BELT. GOOD SCORE BY TURAKINA MAN. The Taranaki Rifle Association’s annual meeting was held at Rewa Rewa on Saturday, over 50 competitors being present from surrounding districts, including Te Kuiti and Marton. Cor/ditions in the morning were rather difficult owing to the changing light, but both light and wind improved later in the day, when higher scores were registered. The championship, which carries with it the belt presented to the association in 1909 by Mr. T. King, won outright and re presented by D. Roots (Patca) and F. C. Hogg (New’ Plymouth), was won easily by President A. Govenlock, of Turakina, who shot remarkably well to average 47 over the five ranges. The runner-up was D. MeLeay (Te Kuiti), nine points behind the winner, followed by E. J. Booth, of Hawera. President Govenloek also won the short range aggregate with the score of 141, he being closely followed by J. G. Turnbull (New Plymouth) with 139. The long range aggregate went to S. J. Booth (Hawera); who shot consistently to notch 48 and 47 at SCO and 900 yards. L. C. Harrison (Kaponga) was second, only one point behind. The teams’ match was won by a scratch team comprised of Paterson, Sole, Gower (Wanganui) and Govenloek (Turakina). w’ho were not eligible to take the Tisch Cup, which went to the New Plymouth team (Turnbull, Taylor, Marett, Higgs), who were second. At the conclusion of the meeting Captai.. Hartnell thanked the competitors for their attendance, and presented the trophies to the respective winners. The meeting was under the management of Captain F. L. Hartnell, the president, and Mr. E. Armitage, the secretary, with Major F. W. Sandford and Captain J. W. Boon as range officers, and Messrs J.
