CRICKET

EASTER HOLIDAY MATCH. TOWN DEFEAT PORT ADELAIDE. An enjoyable holiday cricket match was played at Pukekura Park yesterday, when a local team defeated the Port Adelaide (now in port at New Plymouth) by 227 runs to 173. Port Adelaide batted first against some hitherto unsuspected North Taranaki talent. Everybody in the town team with the exception of the wicket-keeper was given a turn with the ball, Hart and Lawrey each securing two good wickets in spite of the fact that their captain in club cricket has entirely neglected them in the past. Parker made a good start for 30, and Rogerson held matters up for a long time later on, passing the halfcentury before being run out. Williams made 21, Grainger 13 and Loames 10 not out. The outstanding scorer for Town was Grayson, with 89. Peter Allen made 31, Hart 31, Gray 24 and Vai Duff 20, Grainger and Rogerson being the most successful bowlers. Details: —- PORT ADELAIDE.
