DEMAND FOR STOCK.

PAST WEEK'S SALES. A good volume of business has been transacted in stock sales during the week. There is not a great deal of change except that fat and store stock eased somewhat in price. Sales during the week have pointed to the fact that prime fat stock is hard to secure and there has been a drop in the prices of works cattle, including boners and eanners, in some cases a drop of up to £1 per head being reported. Wethers and lambs have also dropped by ,}d per lb, so that the price offering for lamb is Bd, which is equivalent to 21s 4d for a 321 b lamb. There are no forward delivery lines moving, and very little is going to the works tip to the present. There is an easing in store cattle and sheep on account of the very low works-prices offering. Sales of dairy stock have now finished as the season is half way through, and yearlings are at a standstill at present. Pigs are holding up well and are bringing good prices. The present has been a splendid season for pigs, which have been commanding very good prices throughout with the exception of about a fortnight of slightly depressed values. There have been yardings and good sales have been held during the week at Kakaramea, Opunake, Kaponga, Hawera and Manaia. ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY’S CONCERT. FURTHER SUCCESS ACHIEVED. The last concert of the 1926 season, held by the Hawera Orchestral Society in the Opera House last night, was a splendid success, and throughout the programme the orchestra acquitted itself admirably and gave some very fine renderings of classical selections. The Opera House was well filled and the performers were given a very enthusiastic reception. The Orchestra was conducted by Mr. H. C. A. Fox, to whom, in no small part, last night’s success was due. Mr. Fox was also responsible for orchestrating the “Spring Song” (Mendelssohn) and “The Bees’ Wedding” (La Fileuse). Some of the popular selections were “Raymond” (Ambroise Thomas), “La Boheme” (Giacomo Puccini), the “Spring Song” (Mendelssohn), “The Bees’ Wedding” (La Fileuse), “The Gondoliers” (Arthur Sullivan), and a suite entitled “Nautical Scenes” (P. E. Fletcher). The was ably assisted by Mr. Harrison Cook, who lias previously made such a favourable impression on Hawera nusic-lovers. Again last night Mr. Cook was enthusiastically received. His items were “Mephistopheles’ Serenade” (Gounod), “Cavatina” (Halevy), and “The Sergeant-Major on Parade” (Longstaffe).
