EFFECT ON PROHIBITION. FEW AREAS REMAIN “WET.” By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Ottawa, Dee. 2. The result of the Ontario election brings the greater portion of both area and population of Canada under Government sale of liquor from stores. Prohibition still reigns only in the small maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Out of 112 in the House, 80 who were elected will support Government control of liquor. These are composed of 75 straight-out Conservative followers of the Premier (Mr. Ferguson) and five wet Independents. The Opposition consists of Liberals and Progressives. Of the 30 who entered the battle as straight-out prohibition candidates, not • one was elected. Mr. Raney, Liberal and dry leader, w as elected by a narrow majority, while Mr. Nickle, former At-torney-General, who deserted Mr. Ferguson over the latter’s liquor was badly beaten.
