WOMEN IN BUSINESS
MEN’S EARNINGS REDUCED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 1. That there are over-many girls and women competing against men, was the emphatic declaration of Dr. Fenton, medical officer for Kensington. He included girl typists and shop assistants, saying that the proper place for them was domestic service. If they cleared out, men’s conditions and earnings would be vastly improved, opening wider opportunities for marriage, which was unquestionably the happiest state of existence. This change would remove from the labour market thousands of women, while, by the increased earnings of married men, it would make possible domestic assistance. Furthermore, domestic work was better for girls than typing, selling stockings or packing pickles.
