NOVEMBER WEATHER

LOW TEMPERATURE THROUGHOUT. The weather during November was most unseasonable, being wet, windy and cold, especially during the last week. The temperature was lower than that in any November of the five years during which the present observer has kept the records. The rainfall for the month was 6.89 inches, rain falling on 21 days. There was no day on which the rainfall was exceptionally heavy, the biggest fall being .88 inch on the 6th, but there were many heavy showers. October and November have been unusually wet months, the total rainfall being 19.02 inches, against an average for the same months during the last five years of 10.7 inches. The total rainfall for the year has been 63.70 inches against 52.03, 62.24 and 59.60 inches in the three preceding years. Temperature records were as follow: Mean temperature for month 54.71 deg.; last year it was 54.9 deg., but this was lower than usual; in 1923 the mean temperature was 58.2 deg. The highest shade temperature was 65.2 deg. and the lowest 38.5 deg. The mean maximum temperature in the sun was 119 deg. and the highest record 134 deg. The mean minimum on the grass was 45.4 deg (last month 49.3 deg. and last November 46.3 deg), and the lowest temperature recorded 35.4 deg. There were 218 hours 20 minutes of bright sunshine during the month, which compared very favourably with the 159 hours 40 minutes recorded last year, but the constant cold winds reduced its effect. The wind was often strong, especially on the 3rd, 15th, 16th, and from the 25th to 27th, when there were frequent sharp hailstorms. At 7.30 a.m. the direction of the wind was as follows: North, 6 days; southeast, 5; south, 3; west, 10; north-west, 6.
