SHEEP DOG TRIALS
THE TARATA CLUB. A PROGRESSIVE INSTITUTION. The progressive policy adopted by the officials of the Tarata Sheep Dog Trial Club was strikingly illustrated at the 20th annual meeting on Saturday night, when the review of the year’s proceedings showed the solid position of the club. Mr. A. Corkill (president) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. Apologies were received from Messrs. R. Mcßae and W. V. Mclntyre. The balance-sheet showed that the total receipts had been £142 0s Bd, the principal items being members’ tickets £l6 ss, entry fees £26 13s 6d, donations £26 la 6d, booth and stall £2O 8s 2d, gate money and programmes £6 ‘Js 3d, dance £l5, smoke concert £8 2s 6d, competitions £l5 3s 6d, sale of mutton, etc., £1 17s 3d. Expenditure had totalled £124 4s sd, the principal items being goods for booth and stalls, dance, etc., £36 2s 6d, advertising and printing £8 12s 9d, orchestra £5 10s, prize list £57 2s, North Island Sheep Dog Trial Association £3 9s 6d, presentation to judge £4 4s, sundry expenses, cartage, sheep, repairs, etc., £6 8s Bd. The credit balance in the bank was £62 3s lOd, as compared with £44 7s 7d at the commencement of the year, an increase of £l7 16s 3d. The balance-sheet and report were adopted. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. R. Paterson (re-elected); president, Mr. A. Corkill (re-elected); committee, Messrs. J. Drummond (chairman), S. George, G. Burr, J. Mackie, D. Muir, W. Topping and R. Swan; hon. secretary, I. Macrae; hon. treasurer, A. Muir; hon. auditor, H. Higgins (reelected). A note of thanks was accorded the ladies for the valuable assistance given at the last trials, the mover, Mr. J. Drummond, remarking that visitors had expressed their appreciation of the manner in which the ladies worked. Votes of thanks were also accorded Mr. R. Paterson for the use of his grounds for the trials, Mr. S. George for supplying the sheep, to Mr. S. George and his ‘assistants for organising the sheep-guessing competitions, Mr. H. Lambert for the valuable assistance given at the trials, Drake Bros, for the loan of tarpaulins, the president for his able services in connection with the club, the chairman (Mr. J. Drummond), the secretary (Mr. Macrae), to the committee, and to the auditor (Mr. H. Higgins) and the Press, all of whose services were eulogised. Votes of thanks were also accorded the Press for their full reports of the trials.
