COAL SUPPLY” EXHAUSTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 30. The British tramp steamer Harnjattan, which left Auckland last Wednesday afternoon for Newcastle, encountered rough seas, making only slow progress possible and returned to port this afternoon. On Sunday morning, when, the vessel was about IJO miles in a north-westerly direction,., from Cape Maria, it was discovered that the ship had not sufficient coal in her bunkers to allow her to complete her voyage. Accordingly the vessel was put about and made for Auckland. Despite a severe buffeting in the. gale the Harmattan escaped damage and she will probably sail for Newcastle tomorrow.
