SOUTH TARANAKI PLAY

OKAIAWA MEET EXCELSIOR. RAIN MARS THE GAME. Despite the heavy rain and generally rough weather in South Taranaki on Saturday; an attempt was made to play the cricket fixtures in both the senior and junior divisions, but in each case the games did not continue for the full time. In the Okaiawa v. Excelsior match, Okaiawa went in first and Excelsior put their opponents all out for 95. The rain interfered with play continually and the wicket was very heavy. The only Okaiawa players to make double figures were Pratt (31), A. Thomas (14) and V. Betts (10). For the first time this season R. Penny failed to compile double figures. The outstanding howling was performed by B. McCarthy with four wickets for 26 runs. Saturday witnessed the commencement of two-day matches in the southern division fixtures, and the first matches under this new system will be completed on Saturday next. The details are: — OKAIAWA. JUNIOR GRADE. EXCELSIOR B DEFEAT SCHOOL B. Excelsior B defeated' School B (Hawera) by 100 luns to 53 on the first innings. SCHOOL A v. ELTHAM. The match between School A (Hawera) and Eltham juniors was not completed, School putting Eltham all out for 102 on the first innings. STRATFORD DEFEAT SCHOOL. Playing on a wet pitch in Victoria Park, in most unfavourable weather conditions, the Stratford juniors added another 3-point win to their list by defeating S.T.H.S. This maintains their position at the head of the competition with a 1-point lead over Excelsior. Tn the first innings Tech, made 51 and in the second 48 runs. Young was tire highest individual scorer with 20 runs, including a six and two fours. In their first innings Stratford knocked up 153 for five wiekets, whereupon they declared. Gatton topped the scores with 75 and Clarkson made 24. HAWKE CUP MATCH. TARANAKI v. WANGANUI. REVISED TARANAKI TEAM. The inability to travel of several of the members of the team selected to represent Taranaki against Wanganui in a Hawke Oip match at Wanganui next Friday and Saturday has necessitated a revision of the team. Amongst the North Taranaki players eliosen, Bottrill and C. Lash are

not available, and from South Taranaki Monaguaii, Penny and Betts (second emergency) are not able to travel. The revised team is as follows: — C. N. Kingston, 0. M. Nasmith, C. G. Clarke, L. Petty, H. J. Grayson, N. Gibson (North), E. Cole, S. Lay, C. Little, J. Cheevers, Crombie (South). .Reserves: Wilson (South), Earl (North), Jones (North), Dykes (North). The match begins early on Friday morning at Wanganui, and players are expected to make their own arrangements about travelling. Some have already arranged to go by private car. TOWN v. COUNTRY. Arrangements are being made so that both matches between Town and Country A and B teams respectively will probably be played at New Plymouth next Saturday, instead of one at New Plymouth and one at Tikorangi. as at first suggested. Auckland, Last Night. In cricket championship matches, Y.M.C.A. (137) beat Ponsonby (132 and five for 72). Eden (343) drew with Grafton with 4 wickets for 163. North Shore A (164) beat Parnell (112). -’Varsity (462) beat North Shore B (92 and six wickets for 80). Wickets were dead, there being no outstanding performances. CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES, By Telegraph* —PreM Association. Christchurch, Nov. 27. In the cricket competition Old Collegians, who had made 115 in the first innings, put on 94 for seven in the second (I. Hamilton 35, W. J. Hamilton 19, R. H. Hamilton 18). Old Boys, in their first innings, made 120 for nine wickets declared (Mortlock 24, Powell 33, Burns 14, Cromb 13). Bowling for Old Collegians Heasley took five wickets for 37, R. H. Hamilton two for 19 and Ball one for 36. At a sepcial meeting of the Cricket Association it was recommended that the ground and finance committee authorise a trip to New Zealand at the end of the season. A large number of players, including A. Ricfiardson, V. Richardson, Grimmett, Gunn, Scott, Parry, Pritchard and Rundell, ha fa signified their willingncve to participate in the tour. It is expected ths tea.ni will comprise 14 player*.
