WEST END SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the West End School Committee was held on Thursday, there being present: Messrs. J. A. Hawker (chairman), C. O. Berg, Geo. Burgess, G. R. Mclsaae, J. W. Thomas (headmaster) and H. J. Abram (hon. secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. Nasmith, Julian and W. H. Jones. The headmaster reported as follows: “The attendance for the quarter to date averages 4185. The present roll number is 453. Seventeen children have been admitted and six withdrawn during the quarter. Miss Warren is at present absent through sickness, and Mr. Graham has been appointed relieving teacher. Mr. Drader was also absent to-day through illness. 1 suggest that the sports be held on the afternoon of the school’s closing for the Christmas holidays, and that the infants have their breaking-up ceremony in the morning. If the school is to*be moved iu the holidays it will be necessary to have all school furniture, etc., stored in the gymnasium. The plan of the proposed, removal and remodelling of the West End School was received, and the chairman and members commented very favourably on it. It was proposed to hold a breakingup ceremony for the children on the afternoon of December 17. In the forenoon Mrs. Hawker will give out presents to the infant children.
