TROTTING NOTES. (By “Equitable.’’) Nominations close on Friday next, December 3, for the South Wairarapa Trotting Club’s annual meeting. Acceptances close on the same day for the Wellington Trotting Club’s summer meeting. # • * # Taranaki horses competing at the Otahuhu meeting could not land a stake. A third to Sister Beatrice was the closest. « * * * Priscilla Dean is another Chestnut Dillon which is not much good on race day. The matron’s paddock is her place. * * * * At the “smalls” and -well handled. Sister Beatrice will collect some stake money. Van Cap is likely to take on farm labour, which will be a blessing to punters. «i » * * Marble Hall has his native owner thinking. This trotter is likely to change ownership in the near future. « * * * Native Chief was first and champion in the trotting stallions’ class at the Hawera Show. « # # * Tui Bells is the only one nominated for the Wellington meeting from P. H. Green’s stable. * * # # The well-known owner, W. Young, died suddenly at Christchurch last week. The late Mr. Young was a half-owner of that good trotter Young Blake. * * * Lord Nepean was unlucky last week at Auckland. In his four starts he was placed second once and third three times. * ♦ » » A change of trainers did the triek with Peter Dean. Harry Kinnimont has got his old favourite back to his best form. e * * * Prince Pointer put up a track record for the Auckland district when he finished second to Jewel. His time for the two miles was 4.22, and it will be a long time before it is lowered. * * * *
The Wellington Trotting Club have received large nominations for the club’s summer meeting, which takes place on the old Hutt racecourse on December 8 and 11. A large number of South Island horses are engaged, and as in the past, the greater share of the stakes is likely to go to South Island owners
Reg. Vautier, the Palmerston North owner, as expected, landed the Nelson Cup with Van Rich and also won the mile harness on the second day. Reg. made no secret about this horse’s chance amongst hie friends, who had a good win. * * # #
George Caddy was i(ot long in getting on the winning list. As soon as he got over his fall he was behind Van Rich, when he won both races. He also drove Grand Kevin into second place at the Nelson meeting.
P. H. Green, the Hawera trainer, is having a run of “outs.” The latest is that the promising young pacer, Lue Pronto, got into a wire fence when Green was attending the Auckland meeting. Although not seriously hurt, it will be some time before she is ready to race.
When the country meetings come around Great Kevin should land a stake or two for Owner Sid Jones. This young pacer is filling out and showing great improvement since going into George Richards’ stable. * * * *
Bob Hall, who has a mixed team of gallopers and trotters in his stable, nearly brought off a surprise with the unruly Reliance. He was only beaten by a length in the Onehunga Handicap by a good one in Auto Machine. Reliance hopped off like a good one. If Hall can get this moody pacer to begin aright there is a future before him. « * * *
Nominations closed yesterday for the Auckland Cup Christmas meeting. This is one of the meetings of the year, and the stake for the Auckland Cup is the biggest in the Dominion.
