CRIME IN MELBOURNE
ASSAULT ON YOUTH. PULLED INTO CAR AND ROBBED After knocking him unconscious, robbers bundled Edward 'William Grubb, 17, a gardener, of Kenilworth Grove, Melbourne, into a motor-car. They dumped him, unconscious, on to a roadway in open country about six miles from the place where the assault took place. He was not found until six o’clock the next morning. The youth had been to a picture theatre at Malvern, and ho camo home in a tram car. He alighted at Kenilworth Grove, and noticed a car standing near the corner. The engine was running. As the boy turned into the street two men sprang from the shadows. One grabbed him by the left arm and the other by the back of the neck. He was then hit violently above the left eye with something hard, and became unconscious. When he awoke he found himself lying at the side of the road six or seven miles away, and was nearly frozen with the cold. He was unable to walk, and waited until picked up by a passing market gardener. His inside coat pocket and hip pocket had been torn out, and the buttons had been wrenched off his vest and trousers. From his hip pocket f2 10s had been stolen, but Is 41d which was in his coat was untouched. KNOCKED DOWN AND BEATEN. Attacked by five youths near Jollimont railway bridge, Melbourne, early in the morning, William Henry Thompson, of East Melbourne, was knocked down and beaten with pickets. He was treated •at the hospital for severe lacerations. Thompson stated that the youths asked him how much money he had. He did not reply, but took to his heels, and was overhauled by his pursuers.
