MURDERS IN NEW BRITAIN
PUNITIVE EXPEDITION ACTIVE.
BRUSHES WITH THE NATIVES.
By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Melbourne, Nov. 19.
Advice received from the Rabaul punitive expedition in New Britain, sent with the object of arresting the murtlerere of some prospectors, succeeded in establishing defence posts Two hostile natives were killed and one wounded. None of the punitive expedition was hurt. Several villages were advanced upon and found deserted. The expedition was attacked after it had occupied the first village, but the natives were dispersed. It is hoped that when supplies have been replenished patrols will be able to break down any further resistance and will succeed in arresting the ringleaders of the attacks.
The body of David Page, who was reported missing, has been found by the expedition.
