MOTOR-CAR DISPLAY
ESTIMATING MILEAGE. COMPETITIONS WITH PONTIAC. An interested crowd of spectators gathered last evening at Mr. L. H. Johnson’s garage in Devon Street, New Plymouth, to witness the commencement of the Pontiac competition. A Pontiac six coach, mounted on rollers, was officially started and tho speedometer sealed by Mr. P. E. Stainton, secretary to the Taranaki Motor Traders’ Association, at 8.30 p.m. The car is to run for a week’s non-stop run, 108 hours in all. During that time the wheels will have traversed a considerable mileage which the public are requested to estimate. The competitor estimating the nearest figure will receive £5O reduction on a brand-new Pontiac coach. If the winner finds it incon venient to take delivery of the car. h? will be assisted to sell his interest to one of the many buyers awaiting the arrival of the Pontiac shipment. Upon tho termination of the week Mr. Stainton will stop the car, unseal the speedometer, announce the mileage and name the winner. During the week the public have the opportunity of viewing the latest and best in automobile design and engineering in the comprehensive display in one of°Mr. L. H. Johnsen’s commodious show, rooms. On view are the latest molds of all the agencies which this up-to-date Oakland, Pontiac. Cadillac, Vauxhall and firm holds and which comprises the Chevrolet cars, and Chevrolet and G.M.C. trucks. The services of George’s orchestra have Je en engaged to provide music in the showroom. which has been effectively decorated with greenery, ferns and coloured streamers.
