USES OF SALT. When washing new coloured garment* always remember to soak them Jret in water to which one or two tablespoon* of salt have been added to prevent tlie colours running. Brass kettles should be cleaned with salt and vinegar before using. 4 A little salt and soda should always be used when cooking greens, because salt makes.the water hotter and gives a better taste to the greens, and tho soda by extracting the oil from the greens gives them a good colour. To prevent cracked eggs from lioiling out of the shells, nrb the cracks with salt and put plenty of salt info tho water in which they arc boiled. Salt, if applied vigorously with a cloth, is a valuable method rif-removing burnt food from casseroles, piedisbes, saucepans, etc.: while salt arid lemon juice, used together, are an excellent cleaner for lacquered brass. But after the use of lemon, the articles cleaned must be thoroughly rinsed, as the acid corrodes. For ordinary brass trays and bowls there is no simpler or finer way of cleaning than to rub with a cut lemon until clean, and then rinse. Under fhi* treatment the brass takes on the golden, dull polish that is so beautiful.
