CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
PIPERS’ CHURCH PARADE. ST. ANDREW’S SCOTTISH. CONCERT. A meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society was held on Thursday evening, when there were present: Messrs. A. M. Mac Diarmid (chief), A. Weir, R. Bennoch, F. McKenzie, G. Fluker, J. Findlay, J. F. Andrews, •A. Rankin, Pipe-major N. Cruden, Drummajor D. Weir and M. Gray Nasmith (hon. see.). In connection with the Taranaki Provincial Caledonian Sports Association the proposed rules were adopted, and Messrs. Cruden, Andrews and A. Weir were appointed as the society’s delegates. Messrs. W. Brown, F. Musson, W. Freebarin, A. Weir and G. Fluker were appointed a reej class committee, and it was resolved that the next monthly assembly be held on Wednesday evening, November 24. The Pipe Band Committee for the new year will comprise the chief, Messrs. 3. Findlay, G. Fluker, J. Austin, Pipe-major Cruden and Drum-major Weir. It was resolved to procure an additional guards’ side drum. for the pipe band.
In connection with the church parade and pipe band concert to be held on November 28, it was resolved that Pipemajor Cruden interview the Eltham and Hawera Pipe Bands with a view to securing their co-operation. Arrangements in connection with the concert to be held in the Sportsground in the afternoon were also discussed. It was resolved to hold a Scottish concert in the Empire Theatre on St. Andrew’s night (November 30). Miss M. Weir and Sir. W. Brown were appointed honorary dancers to the society Matters in connection with Burns’ celebration were also discussed, and it was resolved that a supper be held in St. Mary’s Hall on January 24. Speakers for the various toasts were suggested, and other arrangements made. It was resolved to approach the borough council for permission to take up a collection at Hogmanay in aid of the band uniform funds. Mrs. W. Jones was. appointed to the ladies’ committee. The pipe-major reported that the services- of the pipe band were desired by the Knox Church authorities in connection with their festival; the Fire Brigade also desired their assistance in the Darktown Fire Brigade turn-out in aid of the Salvation Army; while the Plunket Society desired the assistance of the band at an afternoon some Sunday in Mr. Newton King’s grounds in aid of the Plunket Society. It was resolved to accede to the various requests. The secretarv presented a very satisfactory financial statement, and accounts amounting to £45 were passed for paym"nt. Six new members were elected.
