TOOK A BICYCLE
MARRIED WOMAN CONVICTED. Palmerston N., Nov. 15. “This kind of practice is very common, and is one which causes great inconvenience to the owner,” said SeniorSergeant O’Grady in the Magistrate's Court this morning of Elena Hollier, a married woman, who failed to appear in answer to a charge of converting to her own use a bicycle, the property of George Clifford Tarr. * The evidence was to the effect that on October 18 last Tan* left a lady s bicycle outside his shop at Terrace End. Defendant was seen to stop and look in the store window, and when next seen was wheeling the bicycle along the road, and subsequently to discard the machine. When interviewed by the police, defendant was evasive in her replies. The senior-sergeant intimated that defendant had previously taken a bicycle from an hotel in the town. A fine of £1 and costs was imposed, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment.
