POLITICS IN SAMOA

AGITATORS AT WORK PETITION TO THE MINISTER. NATIVES ASKED TO JOIN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Conyright. Received Nov. 16, 5.5 p.m. Suva, Nov. 10. A political meeting was held at Apia on Friday at which 200 natives and Europeans were present. The elected members of the council endeavoured to induce the natives to combine with Europeans in a petition to the Minister. A letter was read from the Administrator warning the promoters of the meeting against interference with the natives. The Planters’ Association did not support the meeting, while many Europeans left the meeting before its conclusion. The meeting decided, however, to send delegates to New Zealand if support was forthcoming. Thp meeting subscribed just three pounds sterling. No recognised leader of the Samoan race was present, and the Fiapules did not attend. The agitation is alleged to be 'traced to six disgruntled individuals.
