ACCIDENT AT DUNEDIN.

Dunedin, Last Night.

An inqueet was opened to-day concerning the circumstances surrounding ths death of Thus. McAuliffe, who died in the Dunedin Hospital yesterday as the result of, injuries received while engaged in shunting in the Dunedin railway yards.

Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., sat as coroner.

The resident surgical officer at the Dunedin Hospital (Dr. Sylvester Geerin), said deceased was admitted on November 12, suffering from severe lacerations of the muscles of the right leg and thigh. He was operated on. but he gradually sank and died on Sunday evening. The probable cause of death, in his opinion, was toxaemia, following a very virulent infection. The inquest was adjourned am* die.
