WANGANUI TOURNAMENT. TARANAKI RINKS COMPETING. (By Wire—Special to News.) Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganui Bowling Centre’s Christmas tourney reached the semi-final stage to-day, when nine rinks were left in—Gellatly and Gordon (St. Johns), Foster, McLeod, McFarlane and Tilley (Wanganui), Ramsay and Steel (Gonville). and Lobb (West End). As a result of the first two rounds Foster, Lobb, McFarlane, Tilley and Gellatly were knocked out, leaving Ramsay to meet Gordon and McLeod to nneet Steel. Taranaki teams scored as under in section, play; Spurdie (Inglewood) 4 wins, 4 losses; Calder (Waitara) 5 and 3; Rennell (Fltzroy) 5 and 3; McNeill (Fltzroy) 5 and 3; Lobb (West End) 6 and 2; Beal (West End) 4 and 4. THE STRATFORD CLUB The very pleasant weather was responsible for a good muster on the graen on Thursday afternoon. A keenly contested "Buttons” game was played between the holders (Kivell, Canman, Martin, Smart) and the cha’lengars (Woodhead, Carryer, Finlay, Patterson). On the eleventh head the game stood nine all, and at the fifteenth and concluding head the scores were still a tie, 12 all. An extra head was then played and <*he holders scored one, thus retaining the "Buttons.” A friendly match resulted as follows: Pelck, Curtis, Sanderson (s) 20; v. Clarke, Butcher, R. Masters (s) 33. Old, Porrltt, W. McDonald (s) 15; v. Lindop, Boyd. J. S. McDonald (s) 31. Cogar, Young, Peters (s) 21; v. Walters, C. Thompson, Allen (s) 27.
