DAIRY-FARMERS’ CHRISTMAS
PAYMENTS FOR BUTTER-FAT IN WAIKATO AND THAMES. £378,000 FOR NOVEMBER. The Christmas toast of the dairy-farmer should certainly be “Gentlemen, the Cow,” in appreciation of the generous supply of butter-fat this season. On December 20, the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Cd. distributed to suppliers in the Waikato and Thames Valley districts the record sum of £378,000 as payment on 6,397,633 lbs of butter-fat for the month of November. This shows not alone the wonderful season experienced this year, but also the great expansion that has taken place in the dairying industry. It is now quite certain that the output for the Dominion will beat all former records this year. What is also a thing to be thankful for is that the price of butter in London is holding very well. The payments for Novembei were distributed amongst 7500 suppliers with about 30,000 dependents upon the industry. It is not the owner of the dairy herd alone that gains from the dairying industry. No less than £6500 was paid during November to 200 contractors for the cartage of the cream to the 56 creameries and factories- Not a little work is entailed in the preparation of 6000 cheques at Hamilton Post Office and another 1500 at Paeroa. The world’s dairy record is stated to be eld by the Waharoa factory for buttermaking. The output from this factory on December 4 was 812 boxes, totalling 20 tons 6 cwt. The previous record was held by Frankton factory with 18 tons.
