FIRES.
•LARGE SAWMILL DESTROYED. HEAVY LOSS AT NAPIER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Dec. 25. Holt and Sons’ large sawmill, a quantity of timber in the yard, and a cottage adjacent, were destroyed by file on Saturday afternoon. A strong easterly wind endangered a block of wooden houses, but good work by the firemen in trying conditions prevented its further spread. The insurances are not available, but they are known to he small, and the firm’s loss runs into several thousands. BIG HOUSE BURNED DOWN. Auckland, Dec. 25. A fire occurred late on Saturday night, resulting in the destruction of the tenroomed residence of Mi*. T. Hollywood, o? Onehunga. The occupants were out at the time. In addition an imported Belgian motor car, valued at £lOOO, was burned. The house and contents were valued at £3OOO.
