BRAKPAN MINE MURDERS.
ELEVEN MEN REPRIEVED. THE DUPES OF OTHERS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Dec. 26, 5.5 p.m. Capetown, Dec. 22. Eleven men, who were condemned to death in connection with the murders of the Brakman mine officials during the March revolt, have been reprieved. The decision is generally applauded. In their petition to the GovernorGeneral the condemned men say: ‘“We are not murderers as we understand the word. We did want to keep as much as possible of the good things of life for our families, but, as hunger pressed, we fell readily into the organisation of others who left us to take the risk and bear the blame. The men who incited us by speech did so with impunity.”— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Association.
