CHRISTMAS IN HOSPITAL.

THE PATIENTS ENTERTAINED. PRESENTATION OF GIFTS. Some of the joy of Christmastide was brought into the lives of the patients at the New Plymouth hospital on Saturday morning, when Alesdames C. H. Burgess, S. Burgess and Nicol with the junior associates of the Victoria League, paid a visit to the institution to distribute gifts, while a party of the younger folk presented a 'short musical programme, which was keenly appreciated. The programme was arranged by Mary Brodie. The children’s ward had been prettily decorated with garlands of roses and the little ones were presented with sweets, decorated toys and bon-bons. Beside these the children were given beautiful scrapbooks, made by friends and members of the league. The women patients were presented with lavender bags and pocket handkerchiefs, whilst the men were also the recipients of seasonable gifts. All the adult patients were presented with books and periodicals. The visitors traversed the whole building, the patients in isolation not being forgbtten. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a very pleasant gathering, three cheers being given for the Victoria League at the call of the matron, whilst a patient’s call for further cheers for the visitors was lustily responded to.
