It may surprise the New Zealanders to know that well-informed people, in the United States consider that New Zealand is ten minutes’ sail from Australia by ferry boat. That' was, the opinion expressed by an American to Air. C. J. De Garvis, the dried fruit expert and exporter, when he was in New York recently. Others were under the impression that both New Zea'and and Australia were populated by black people, with a few white soldiers and tennis players; that Australia was abeut the size of the state of Virginia and that New Zealand was merely a rock where some fishing was done. The moral for both countries is to advertise, advertise themselves, and again advertise themselves. For the point naturally arises, if they think that in progressive alert America, what must be the opinion in other places ? Mr. 11. Turner, at present Chief Inspector of the Public Trust Office, has been appointed by Cabinet to fill the vacancy of Assistant Public Trustee. Air. Turner has had nearly 24 years service in the Public Trust Office, having joined as a cadet in February, 1899. Controller of Estates Administration Division, and Chief Inspector. Mr. Turner is a professional accountant by examination. and is well and favourably known throughout the Public Service.
