KAPONGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs. B. A. Cleland gave a most enjoyable jazz party to a number of her friends last Wednesday. Although the evening was warm, all present voted it a most successful function. Dancing, interspersed with ping-pong and cards, was kept up till a late hour. The children’s fancy dress ball was repeated on Tuesday night, and was again very successful. The proceeds were in aid of the prize fund. On Thursday afternoon the prize-giving ceremony was held, there being a large attendance of parents and friends. We regret to have to report that two of our promising young tennis players, in the persons of Miss Sandals and Miss Foster, are leaving Kaponga. Last Thursday, 'ho members of the tennis club asspi. dat the courts, and pre- . sented Miss Sandals with a morocco wallet and Miss Foster with a piece of Doulton ware, as a token of the esteem in which their club members hold them. A meeting of the committee of the tennis club was held on Thursday evening in the library. It was decided to top-dress the two courts with tar and ■sand, to lengthen the courts, and to put an extra three feet of netting on to the back fence. As this is the last of my notes before Christmas, allow me. Mr. Editor, to wish you and your staff a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. (The News’ staff returns than’.' and reciprocates the kind wishes.)
