BOWLING.
QUEENSLANDERS AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association Christchurch, Dec. 22. The Queensland bowlers arrived from Wellington to-day. They were met at Lyttelton by the president and members of the Christchurch Centre and were accorded an enthusiastic welcome. To-morrow they will have a civic reception in the morning, and in the afternoon play against the Christchurch Centre. Christchurch, Last Night. This afternoon the Queensland bowlers played a match against the Christchurch Club, being defeated by 129 points to 114. NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT. SATISFACTORY ENTRIES. A satisfactory number of entries have been received for the Taranaki Bowling Centre’s New Year tournament, which will be held at New Plymouth on January 1 and 2. A total of about twenty-one rinks, including two from Inglewood, two from Okato, and ten from the New Pipmouth Club have signified their intention of competing, and further entries are expected this morning. The tournament is a local one, confined to rinks from clubs affiliated to the centre. The rinks entered are skipped by the following:—lnglewood: Spurdie and Martin. Vogeltown : Robertson, Edgecombe, and Evans. Okato: Ansley and Roebuck. Fitzroy: Hammond, Sharp, Irvine, Beadle. New Plymouth: Drake, Fookes, Griffin, Hill, Luscombe, a. K. Smart. H. Smart, Thompson, Woollett, and Washer. The following will represent Fitzroy in the New Year tournament: Sole, Brooker, Okey, Hammond (s) ; Sarten, P. White, Roberts, Sharp (s) ; Goldsmith, Buckle, Healy, Irvine (3).
