MARTHA TAINUI AGAIN.

AN EXTRAORDINARY RECORD. Christchurch, Dec. 20. “I have never before seen such a long record of convictions for false pretences,’’ said Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. f at the Magistrate's Court, as he surveyed the list of Martha Tainui, who at various stages in her career has posed as “daughter” of Sir Maui Pomare, and “niece” of Sir James Carroll, and has been the possessor of an inspiring collection of aliases. The charge preferred against her to-day was that she was deemed to be a rogue and vagabond, in that she imposed upon private individuals in order to obtain money and

goods. Martha was sentenced to twelve months’ hard labor, to be followed by three years’ reformative detention.
